Study Break | |
Today while crocheting a scarf, I was hit with a startlingly profound revelation:
I really want to buy shoes. I’m sorry, but could I be more of a female stereotype?
Let’s see. “I hate my thighs,” said my ovaries. Yes - I did it.
But in all honesty, I think my inconsolable urge to buy shoes is not as much a desire to fulfill gender roles as it is a need to do anything but study.
Thus begins the dangerous dance called “avoiding work during finals week.”
Did I mention that I’m crocheting? What better way to utilize time than a craft that requires hours of tedious work and results only in a long strip of fabric containing many small holes?
I think that the real problem is that, normally, when faced with unsavory school assignments I would compromise by cleaning, because after all, it is at least some kind of work.
Unfortunately, my apartment is just too clean. I’ve vacuumed, washed dishes, obsessively straightened papers, wiped things until I could wipe no more, and laid things out on my table in a symmetrical design.
I reorganized my dresser drawers and all that’s left to do is take out my recycling.
I actually made a list that has only three items: Read Chapters 17-19.
Start Paper. Buy shoes. I have no recollection of writing this, but I think since the list is in no particular order, I should get my priorities in order and get those damn shoes so I can finally get some work done.
